Patched Ventrilo for Mac OS X 10.5, Leopard

As I have promised upon the release of Mac OS X 10.5, here is a patched version of Ventrilo for all us Mac users to download and enjoy!

This version actually works and took me all of 10-minutes to fix. I have posted instructions for the Ventrilo developers in the past on how to fix this problem, but instead they prefer to threaten me with legal action.

Download: <Link Removed>

EDIT: You should probably download and install Ventrilo first, as I am unsure as to whether it installs anything to other locations on the drive.

Simply delete the original install and move my patched version over to the applications folder afterwards.

Enjoy!

  • I apologize for losing all your comments, but I simply couldn’t find an easy way to migrate from Typo to WordPress.

Excellent! I am so glad you did this and when my copy of Leopard comes monday, i’ll use your patch.

I am disgusted at the behavior of the forum admin at Ventrilo who is now deleting any post that even TALKS about this situation or even asks why. Simple ask of why…

Kudos to you for doing what the Vent dev should have done. Seriously.

When Teamspeak 3.0 comes out….I’m leaving Vent for good. My hosting company does both and I’m sure it would be super cheap to switch.

  • I love the status message on app launch. You’re a godsend, dude. Keep up the good fight!

  • I couldn’t resist changing the status message. ;-)

You guys do know that Ventrilo has patched their official version now. However, he wasn’t as thorough to fix all the row height bugs throughout the program; only the main window was fixed.

I do believe I caught all the problems in my patched version. Also, I’m pretty sure the shell script will do the same thing.

  • Nicely done, sir! Thanks for doing this and I quite enjoyed your revised status message as well. :)

I truly LOL’d. That message was awesome. I’m still gonna give Teamspeak a try once TS3 comes out, so we’ll see. Processor overhead is a real issue for some in my guild and I may have to just deal with crappiness if TS3 is a hog.

Oh well, you’ve made my day, not once, but twice.

Kudos to you, sir, and know that we are with you.

Btw, you get any further legal action? We can’t help if we don’t know…plus I for one am curious beyond all get out!

    Be well,
    Mack

  • No, I haven’t heard anything from Flagship about the issue this time around. They threatened me for the first post I made where I also attached the main.nib file along with the explanation.

Keep in mind that the first time it was only the main.nib file I posted, not the whole program like I did this time. I’m surprised they haven’t said anything to me yet.

I think that with all the flack they’ve gotten from the Mac community over this, they might be reconsidering whether such actions would be wise for their PR. Either that or they’re still in the middle of figuring out what, if anything, they can do to a Canadian. :P

You rock, dude… I guess the Vent dev team are so embarassed about themselves, they try to hide behind their lawyers and legal actions. At least that’s the only logical explanation I can find. This is just fantastic. Thanx alot, again! :D

Do you have the patch anymore?

  • Sarah, I’m sorry but Ventrilo sent their lawyers after me for this patch. :(

The latest version of Ventrilo works and can be downloaded from their site.

their lastest version doesnt work!! it keeps on saying theres a codec problem.
is there anywhere to find a something that will make it work?

  • My patch only fixed a display issue with the program, it wouldn’t help you with the codec problem.

I wouldn’t doubt that the Ventrilo server you’re trying to connect to is using the GSM codec. That codec ONLY works on windows. Tell the administrator of the Ventrilo server to switch to a Speex codec so it is compatible for all users.
